Araxie Jensen

Araxie is a graduate-level counseling intern. She is currently completing her training in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and is pursuing dual licensure as an LMFT and LCPC.

Araxie has completed trainings for Gottman Level 1, Level 2, Couples Addiction Recovery, Treating Trauma and Affairs, and is a leader for the 7 Principles couples workshops.

She is also a spiritual and religious trauma researcher and is currently developing the Multidimensional Religious and Spiritual Trauma Assessment (MRSTA), a tool designed to better identify complex forms of harm within religious, family, and institutional systems. She has seen that people with faith wounds need delicate, unbiased care and a safe space to process their beliefs and emotions.

Araxie's work emphasizes ethical clarity, non-pathologizing approaches, and culturally informed care. She sees adult individuals, couples, families and youth. She often views individuals as part of a family system. It was her research in family history and intergenerational trauma that first drew her to the counseling program at UIS.

She will be serving as President of her local chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international counselors honor society that recognizes excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.

Araxie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in creative writing, which supports her ongoing writing for the Garden Refuge blog. Her articles explore religious trauma, family systems, generational patterns, and the ethical responsibilities of counselors.

Araxie has a large family, and enjoys games, movies and karaoke night with her six children and husband.
